Most international students need to have a student visa to study in the UK.UK visa requirements and general immigration criteria are managed by UK Visas and Immigration. Mainly, there are three types of visa for studying in the UK: (1) Child-Student Visa for age 4 to 17, (2) Short-Term Student Visa, (3) General Student Visa or Tier 4 Visa
- Child Student visa is required for students who are between 4 and 17 years old and plan to study at an independent school.
- Short-Term Study Visa is required for students who plan to study short courses which takes 6 or 11 months like language course, short period of research as part of a degree programme, etc.
- General Student Visa or Tier 4 Visa is required for students who plan to study an academic degree like Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD.
Standard Requirements for visa application
- You should apply for a visa 6 months before you start your course and generally getting decision takes 3 weeks.
- You must complete online visa application.
- You must apply in country you live.
- You should complete your student application to an academic institution and get your registration letter or a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) from your course provider.
- You must prove you can read, write, speak and understand English to a certain level on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) scale. Your level should be at least B1-B2.
- You must have a current passport or other valid travel documentation.
- You should have enough money to support yourself and pay for your course– the amount will vary depending on your circumstances. So, you should provide written consent for your application from your financial sponsor if you’ve received sponsorship for your course fees and living costs in the last 12 months.
- You should have consent letter from your parents or other legal guardians if you’re 16 or 17.
- Also, you should provide proof of your relationship to your parent or guardian if you’re under 18.
- The standard cost is £363 to apply for a student visa from outside the UK.
- If you’re applying your visa online, you should pay the healthcare surcharge as part of the application process.
- You must have a tuberculosis (TB) test if you’re coming to the UK for more than 6 months.
- You can stay in the UK depends on the length of your course.
- You can work when you study.
- You cannot claim public funds(benefits) and pensions, work in certain jobs, be self-employed, study at a local authority-funded school (also known as a maintained school).
