Why Study in Turkey


Turkey is home to over 200 higher education institutions, which cater to around eight million students. Approximately 120 of these are state-governed universities, while the rest are established non-profit private foundations.

More than 220,000 international students chose to study in Turkey in the 2020/21 academic year. Turkish universities offer students the chance to gain a unique higher education experience.

Despite the Turkish higher education system being one of the youngest in the world, it is already garnering a good reputation worldwide.

A total of 21 Turkish institutions feature in the QS World University Rankings 2022, with Koç University, Sabanci University, Middle East Technical University and Bilkent University ranking in the top 600. This is an impressive standing

Courses in Turkey

You are able to gain a bachelor’s degree, masters degree and doctoral degree.

Most Turkish Bachelors degrees take on average four years to complete full time (over eight semesters). These can be studied in a range of subjects – from business management, economics and mathematics to fashion design, tourism and hospitality.

Exceptions to this include courses in architecture, dentistry and veterinary medicine, which involve up to five years of study, and medicine, lasting up to six years.

Turkish universities offer Masters courses both with and without the completion of a thesis.

Cost of Studying and Living in Turkey

The tuition fees you pay will depend on where you choose to study, and subject.  Private universities are permitted to set their own fees, and on average charge from $6000 to  $ 11000 per year.

Your cost of living will depend on where you choose to live. The bigger cities will be more expensive than the smaller cities and towns. On average, you should budget for between $300 and $350 per month. This accounts for your accommodation, groceries and travel.
